Brian Donahue
Brian Donahue is an Editor of From the Ground Up, and has been involved with Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands & Communities since 2005. He is Professor Emeritus of American Environmental Studies at Brandeis University. He co-founded Land’s Sake, a nonprofit community farm and forest organization in Weston, Massachusetts, and now co-owns Bascom Hollow Farm in Gill, Massachusetts. He sits on the Gill Conservation Commission and Town Forest Committee, and on the boards of The Massachusetts Woodland Institute and The Franklin Land Trust. He is author of Slow Wood: Greener Building from Local Forests and several other books. He is co-author of Wildlands and Woodlands, A New England Food Vision, and Beyond the Illusion of Preservation.

David Foster
David Foster serves as an Editor of From the Ground Up, a role that is strongly complementary to his ongoing work co-coordinating Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands & Communities, which he helped to found in 2005. After completing his PhD thesis at the University of Minnesota exploring the natural role of fire in the boreal wilderness of southern Labrador, David worked his entire career at Harvard as a faculty member, Director of the Harvard Forest and Principal Investigator for the Harvard Forest Long-Term Ecological Research program.

Marissa Latshaw
Marissa Latshaw is the Publisher of From the Ground Up and co-coordinator of the Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands & Communities initiative, where she collaborates with partners across New England to build empathetic communications and inclusive connections. She has held marketing and publishing roles at Time Inc. and Taunton Press, and served as Vice President of Marketing at the event marketplace GigMasters.com, where her leadership helped facilitate a partnership with The Knot Worldwide (leading to their acquisition). In 2015, she set out as an independent consultant driven by a belief that storytelling rooted in empathy can strengthen relationships and inspire action.

Alex Redfield
Alex Redfield is the Policy Director for Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands & Communities and serves on the Editorial Board for From the Ground Up. With nearly 20 years of experience on the farm, in the classroom, and in state government, Alex has become a trusted voice in advocating for a just transition of agricultural practice and policy in northern New England. He currently serves as the Chair of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners’ Association Certification Services board and coordinates the Northeast Integrated Policy Partnership with colleagues at the University of Vermont’s Institute for Agroecology.

Liz Thompson
Liz Thompson, Managing Editor of From the Ground Up, has spent her career studying, conserving, and communicating about the natural world. Beginning with The Nature Conservancy, her professional work brought her to the Vermont Land Trust, Vermont Natural Heritage Inventory, and the University of Vermont’s Field Naturalist Program. She co-authored Wetland, Woodland, Wildland: A Guide to the Natural Communities of Vermont, and has written for Northern Woodlands, Vermont Land Trust, and Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Liz currently serves as a member of the steering committee for Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands & Communities, and she serves on the board of Northeast WIlderness Trust.
